RATIONALE:
Fundamentals of Computer Graphic Design is a foundation course that will develop a student’s ability to design using basic visual software principles and theory. Students are introduced to tools and techniques to develop their imagination, creativity and skills for effective visual communication. This course will build a strong foundation for advanced design and IT related courses.
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This foundation course explores the essential knowledge students need to create, design and edit images in any graphical design software. Students will use the concepts explored in this course in advertising, graphic design, web design, illustration, broadcast design, photography and game design and many others. Assessment will be based on technical understanding and creative use of resources for the completion of various assignments using Photoshop or Illustrator and InDesign.
GENERAL OBJECTIVES:
At the end of this course students should be able to:
- Identify the different design careers
- Familiarize with the principles and fundamentals of design in a decisive manner.
- Explain the types of graphic images
- Discuss the use of colour to communicate ideas to others
- Explain how to use typography effectively in a design
- Create projects using Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator software programs.
- Familiarize with the basic tools and pallets of Adobe InDesign.
