This introductory course will review the historical development of the tourism/hospitality industry.
The growth, development and trends in the industry will be emphasized and linkages with the economy will be examined.
Through interaction with practitioners within the Hospitality Industry, the learner will focus on the critical importance of people to the industry.
At the end of this course students should be able to:
- Describe the tourism and hospitality industry; the types and forms of tourists and tourism and the sectors involved in the industry.
- Explain the theories of tourism, the positive and negative impacts of the industry, and the stakeholders in the industry.
- Identify source markets, leading destinations, and assess consumer buying behavior in the industry.
- Evaluate ownership and management structures of businesses in the tourism and hospitality industry.
- Analyze future trends in the tourism and hospitality industry.
- Expound on the UN Sustainable Goals as they apply to the tourism and hospitality industry.
