UCC Single Module Certificate Course
This course introduces participants to the essential principles of and legal framework for developing health and safety programmes. Participants will develop an appreciation of the importance of occupational safety and health to the firm seeking to gain and maintain competitive advantage, through maintaining safe facilities, sponsoring appropriate training programs, and providing necessary safe equipment.
This course will cover the theory and practice relating to the development of health and safety programmes and strategies for ensuring that the physical and psychological well-being of the workforce is achieved.
Upon successful completion of this course, learners will be able to:
- Formulate a health and safety policy statement.
- Conduct a company-wide assessment of health and safety.
- Distinguish between the symptoms and causes of accidents and diseases.
- Explain the laws governing workplace health and safety in Jamaica.
- Develop a programme for reducing workplace accidents.
- Develop strategies for reducing occupational diseases.
- Develop a hazard communication programme for managing workplace hazards.
- Develop strategies for reducing occupational stress.
- Establish an workplace violence reduction programme.
- Develop an education programme for managing HIV/AIDS awareness in the workplace.
- Develop strategies for reducing workplace violence.
- Develop a programme for reducing substance abuse in the workplace.
- Design and develop an employee assistance programme (EAP).
- Develop an employee wellness programme (EWP).
- Engage in the practical administration of first aid and CPR in emergency situations.
