IFRS Financial Reporting
UCC Single Module Certificate Course
The aim of the course is to develop knowledge and skills in understanding and applying IFRS Standards and the theoretical framework in the preparation of financial statements of entities, including groups and how to analyse and interpret those financial statements.
The financial reporting course assumes knowledge acquired in Financial Accounting and develops and applies this further and in greater depth. It also covers the analysis and interpretation of information from financial statements.
The focus is to provide students with the requisite analytical tools to understand the environment in which financial reporting choices are made, what the options are and how financial data are used for various types of decisions and how to avoid the misuse of financial statements.
At the end of the course, the students will be able to:
- Outline the conceptual framework financial & regulatory reporting requirements using IFRS standards.
- Account for tangible and intangible assets and liabilities/Leases/Inventory/
Provisions after the financial period/Government Grants/Foreign Currency transactions in keeping with IFRS Standards. - Demonstrate quantitatively, the preparation of Financial Statements in keeping with IFRS Standards
- Single entity financial statements
- Consolidated financial statements of a simple Group. - - Demonstrate quantitatively, the analysis and interpretation of financial statements using financial ratios.
- Discuss the limitations of financial ratios in assessing performance. - Develop and show a keen understanding of preparing and interpreting financial statements using appropriate computer productivity tools e.g. Microsoft Excel.
