UCC Online Student Enrolment more than Doubles this Summer

(KINGSTON, Jamaica: Friday, 29 May 2020) The University of the Commonwealth Caribbean is seeing an unprecedented approximate 230% increase in course registrations for the Summer 2020 semester, since switching to 100% online modality, compared to their Summer 2019 enrolment numbers.

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, The UCC moved all classes online as of Sunday, March 15, 2020, which has continued for their Summer 2020 programs which begun earlier this week.

UCC President, Professor Dennis Gayle posited that, “This successful student enrolment result was achieved by a combination of student tuition waivers, social media marketing, and the warmly appreciated, dedicated efforts of many recruitment, enrolment, admissions, financial services and student affairs staff members, as well as academic advisers, who strongly encouraged existing students to return, and new students to enroll.”

Professor Gayle also added, “The University of the Commonwealth Caribbean hopes to achieve a similarly robust enrolment outcome in the Fall Semester 2020, by applying such strategies, while committing to provide rich educational experiences to students, using both blended ie. partially on-campus & partially online and fully online teaching options and learning formats.”

UCC will continue to provide the appropriate support needed for staff and students, including help lines and desks, with the goal of ensuring an excellent video based online student learning, teaching and evaluation experience.
