Dear Members of the UCC Community,

In the aftermath of Hurricane Melissa, we extend our heartfelt concern and solidarity to every member of our University community across the island. We are deeply mindful that this has been a challenging period, especially for those in the southwestern and northwestern regions who have been most affected. Our thoughts and prayers remain with you and your families during this difficult time.

We are relieved to report that our leadership team, staff, and faculty members are safe, and we trust that you and your loved ones are also well. The Operations Team is currently in contact with Campus Managers and is coordinating efforts to assess all facilities to ensure that our campuses are secure and in a position to safely resume activities.

Please note that classes and regular university operations remain suspended for today as we continue our post-storm assessments. We understand that many members of our community need time to focus on their personal recovery and to care for their families following the impact of Hurricane Melissa.

All staff, including ancillary and facilities management personnel, are asked to report for duty tomorrow, Thursday, October 30, to assist with campus preparations and readiness activities.

The University of the Commonwealth Caribbean (UCC) will resume full operations on Friday, October 31, 2025, during its regularly scheduled hours.

To those who may have suffered loss or damage, please know that you are not alone. Our Group Executive Chairman, Dr. Winston Adams, has sent out a request for persons needing assistance. Please take note and respond accordingly.

We remain united in care, compassion, and resilience as we recover together from the impact of Hurricane Melissa. Please continue to prioritize your safety and well-being.

Warm regards,
Professor Colin Gyles, CD, PhD
President, University of the Commonwealth Caribbean (UCC)
