History of Psychology
UCC Single Module Certificate Course
As budding Psychologists, student will need to have a good foundation in the history of Psychology. This course will meet that need by providing its students a thorough look at the origin and developments in Psychology, leading to an understanding of modern Psychology.
This course is an overview of the history of psychology. It will cover the origins of psychology in pre-20th century philosophy, science, and culture. The varying schools of psychology including structuralism, functionalism, behaviorism, gestalt psychology, and psychoanalysis will be discussed. In addition, more recent developments such as humanistic psychology, and the cognitive movement, will be discussed. Students should as a result of this course be able to integrate the knowledge obtained from the broad perspective of Psychology, with various other psychology courses.
