The Helping Hand Assistance Scholarship
The Helping Hand Assistance Scholarship is a one-time financial award of JMD $55,000 established by the HUSL Caribbean Law Students to support UCC students adversely affected by Hurricane Melissa. This initiative aims to provide relief while fostering stronger collaboration and solidarity between UCC students and Caribbean law students.

Disbursement: Applied toward tuition or credited to the student’s account
Applicants must:
- Be an enrolled UCC student
- Reside in an area that was affected by Hurricane Melissa – proof of address will be required
- Have a minimum GPA of 2.5 (or as determined by the Selection Panel). Students without a GPA may be considered, especially if they withdrew prematurely from the Fall 2025 semester due to the impact of the hurricane
- Demonstrate financial need
Application Requirement
Submit a 250–300 word essay outlining:
- Impact of Hurricane Melissa on your personal and academic journey
- Financial need
- How you have contributed or plan to support your community
- Any community service project that would benefit from a partnership with the Howard University School of Law (HUSL) Caribbean Law Students
