Jamaica's Tourism Minister Celebrates A New Beginning at UCC

 July 28, 2024 - A minister of tourism shows his first responsibility to the people he serves. The Jamaica Minister of Tourism Hon. Edmund Bartlett has been demonstrating this constantly. His address at the University of the Commonwealth Caribbean (UCC) is another testimony to this when addressing students, faculty members, and the public in his commencement address.

UCC Crowns 'Amused' Sir Richard Branson with Honorary Doctorate

Kingston, Jamaica, July 29, 2024 - Sir Richard Charles Nicholas Branson, founder of the Virgin Group, was a little amused yesterday after being awarded an honorary doctor of Business and Entrepreneurship degree (Honoris Causa) from a university in the small island of Jamaica.

Kingston, Jamaica, July 29, 2024 - The University of the Commonwealth Caribbean (UCC) on Sunday conferred three outstanding Jamaicans – Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett; executive chairman of Sandals Resorts International, ATL Group and Island Routes, Adams Stewart; and health-care pioneer, Dr Patricia V Smith; as well as Virgin Atlantic chairman, Sir Richard Branson, with honorary doctoral degrees at its 2024 commencement ceremony held at the National Arena in St Andrew.

The UCC said each honouree represents the spirit of rising to new beginnings and making impactful contributions in their fields, inspiring its graduands to do the same.

At the ceremony Professor Colin Gyles was installed as the university’s fourth president.

The prestigious event slated for Sunday July 28, 2024, at the National Arena in Kingston at 10:30 a.m. will honour Honourable Edmund Bartlett, CD, MP - Honorary Doctorate in Hospitality and Tourism Management Award; Mr. Adam Stewart, CD, Hon. LLD, - Honorary Doctorate in Business Administration Award; Dr. Patricia V. Smith - Honorary Doctorate in Behavioral Sciences Award; and now, Sir Richard Branson - Honorary Doctorate in Business & Entrepreneurship.

(New York, NY – July 11, 2024):  Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC) and the University of the Commonwealth Caribbean (UCC) recently entered into a shared interest agreement. The signing occurred during the 10^th Biennial Jamaica Diaspora Conference in Montego Bay, Jamaica, amid ongoing talks between the Consulate General of Jamaica in New York and BMCC regarding leveraging their resources to work together locally and abroad for the betterment, and in the interest of both communities.
