UCC Acting President to join university leaders at IEEE 2026 Jamaica Talent and Technology Event

KINGSTON, JAMAICA – Thursday, October 22, 2026: Professor Bernadette Warner, Acting President of the University of the Commonwealth Caribbean (UCC), will join fellow university leaders at the 2026 Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Jamaica Talent and Technology Event, scheduled for October 22–23 at the AC Hotel in Kingston.
Presenting on Friday, October 23, Professor Warner will participate as a panelist in the Presidential Forum themed “Tertiary Engineering Education's Impact in Jamaica – Seeing Beyond the Horizon.” The discussion will examine how higher education institutions can prepare Jamaica's next generation of engineers and technology professionals to meet industry demands and thrive in an evolving global economy.
Among UCC's recent technological initiatives is the launch of its institutional artificial intelligence (AI) initiative, which provides access to AI tools for faculty and staff, with access being extended to students and corporate learners at no additional cost.
UCC has also introduced an academic framework governing the responsible use of AI in teaching and assessment, supported by faculty guidance on AI literacy, academic integrity and data protection.
The University is strengthening hands-on technology education through an investment in robotics, embedded systems and electronics equipment for its School of Mathematics, Science and Technology. The planned teaching facilities will support practical learning in robotics, Internet of Things (IoT) applications and electronics design, helping students develop technical and problem-solving skills relevant to emerging industries.
UCC's Recruitment Department will be at the IEEE event on both days to engage prospective students and other attendees, providing information on academic programmes, admission requirements, registration and career pathways in technology, business and entrepreneurship.
The University's participation underscores its commitment to expanding access to technology education, fostering innovation and developing a future-ready workforce equipped to contribute to Jamaica's digital transformation and economic growth.
