UCC SALUTES BERNARD BENSON - PHILANTHROPIST AND HUMANITARIAN

Many students of the University of the Commonwealth Caribbean (UCC) have been the beneficiaries of the kind support of philanthropist and humanitarian Bernard Benson. Mr. Benson was presented with a special Humanitarian Leadership Award at the 2020/2021 Commencement Ceremony.

Bernard Benson distinguished himself as a senior executive of the celebrated US-based firm of financial advisors, Merrill Lynch, Minneapolis, Minnesota private client group and was listed as one of the top thirty financial advisors in the USA by RJ Shook, “The Winner’s Circle” in 2002 and named one of America’s top brokers by “Registers Rep” magazine that same year.

 A kind and generous philanthropist and humanitarian, Bernard Benson has been paying it forward for others to excel.  As Founder of the Ramona and Benson scholarship Foundation, he has since 2016 provided scholarships for students to the University of the Commonwealth Caribbean.

 Five self-driven and outstanding individuals have already embarked on their journey to pursue tertiary education at the UCC, while the Foundation has also provided funding for students at two other local tertiary institutions.

 Bernard Benson has greatly improved the access to Higher Education of scores of Jamaicans ensuring thereby contributing to the strengthening of quality of life and the economy.  Thanks to him, many young graduates will start their adult lives mentally well equipped for the world of work.
