UCC 4TH ANNUAL ACADEMIC RESEARCH CONFERENCE 2020

KINGSTON, JAMAICA: SEPTEMBER 11, 2020 The University of the Commonwealth Caribbean (UCC) and its Research Committee of the Academic Affairs Division will be hosting its 4th Annual Research Conference on September 23-24, 2020. The event will be held in the UCC Lecture Theatre located at the Knowledge and Innovation Centre of the UCC’s main campus; 17 Worthington Avenue, Kingston 5.

Under the theme Developing Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Technology For Global Competitiveness and Resilience, all researchers are encouraged to present their original published and unpublished results of empirical, experimental or theoretical works in all areas of the theme. The University of the Commonwealth Caribbean invites submissions from Academic Researchers, Research Students, lecturers, Heads of Departments, Students, Researchers, Faculty and Course Leaders in all programmes, from all departments and schools.

The proceedings of the event will be opened with remarks from the Most Hon. Prof. Sir Kenneth Hall, Former Governor General of Jamaica;  former Principal of the University of the West Indies (UWI), Mona;  Chancellor, UCC.  The event will include a plenary session discussing Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Technology, competing globally with the required resilience and interactive panel sessions inclusive of a very riveting and engaging Q&A segment.

The guest speakers and panelists include:

  • Mr. David Wan, President, Jamaica Employers Federation
  • Mr. Danny Roberts, CD, JP, Head of the Hugh Lawson Shearer Trade Union Education Institute at the Consortium for Social Development and Research.
  • Mr.  Arnaldo Brown, Former Minister of State in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
  • Mr. Dwayne Russell, General Manager, MC Systems, Jamaica National Bank.
  • Dr. Andrew Spencer, Former Executive Director, Tourism Product Development Company Ltd.
  • Dr. Donald Roomes, University Lecturer, Florida International University.

In the midst of rapid technological change, it is critical that we define, assess and implement new pathways to growth and prosperity. The Research Conference is ideally planned to propel students’ learning in innovative and entrepreneurial thinking on related factors on national and regional economies. The conference will provide the opportunity to engage with UCC Student Entrepreneurs and Innovators who will showcase their work and share their entrepreneurial experiences. Additionally, the conference will highlight Student Poster Presentations and judging will be done to feature the highest awarded student.
