UCC Bags Early Win for Intercol Season, Igniting Campus Spirit and Momentum

KINGSTON, JAMAICA - Monday, October 6, 2025: The University of the Commonwealth Caribbean (UCC) is pleased to announce the official launch of its 2025 Sports Programme. With the commencement of this year’s Intercollegiate (Intercol) season, UCC has already demonstrated strong performances, signaling its growing presence and competitiveness on the collegiate sports stage.

Thursday, October 2, 2025, marked the opening ceremony of the Intercol season, where UCC’s teams made a powerful statement. The basketball squad, under the strategic leadership of newly appointed and nationally renowned coach Roger Marshall, performed admirably in the rally segment, showcasing promising form and disciplined play that excited fans and alumni alike.

However, it was the football team that reigned supreme at the opening ceremony. Under the leadership of Head Coach and Sports Administrator David Tulloch, UCC delivered an emphatic victory over Excelsior Community College in the opening round of the Intercol Knockout Competition. The final score: 6–1 in UCC’s favour, advanced the team to the quarter-finals.

Newcomer Donovan Segree was the star of the match, netting an impressive five goals, while team captain Christopher Chambers sealed the dominant performance with another goal. The team’s success was fortified by the heroics of Vice-Captain and goalkeeper Bjorn Johnson, whose stellar performance drew the attention of a manager from a prominent Jamaican Premier League club, opening the door for potential opportunities.

“We couldn’t have asked for a better start,” remarked David Tulloch, UCC’s Head Coach and Sports Administrator. Expressing delight in his team’s performance he continued, “The energy, discipline, and determination shown by the team signal a new chapter for UCC sports. We’re building a programme that develops talent, inspires school pride, and brings the community together.”

Meanwhile, the netball team, led by the capable and returning coach Keino Johnson, remains in full preparation for their upcoming fixtures. Johnson, who steered the team to impressive successes last season, is confident that her squad will continue to build on their momentum.

With football, netball and basketball all in motion, UCC’s Sports Programme for 2025 is vibrant and full of promise - a testament to the university’s commitment to nurturing talent and promoting healthy competition.
