Course Objectives
The University College of the Caribbean’s (UCC) Bachelor Degree in Tourism and Hospitality Management (upper level) builds on the foundation laid in the Associate Degree in Tourism and Hospitality Management. The programme will enable graduates to earn promotions or credits that may lead to employment opportunities in the business community. Graduates will also be able to matriculate to a Masters Degree programme offered through UCC or other tertiary institutions.
The programme will:
• Improve the level of professionalism in the tourism and hospitality industry;
• Educate and train productive and employable people who meet regional and international occupational standards and can take their place in the global community.
• Provide consistent delivery of core content so that employers’ expectations of graduates of UCC Bachelor of Science degree in Tourism and Hospitality Management are realized.
• Ensure transferability and articulation with other colleges and universities regionally and internationally.
Faculty
- Instructions will be provided by an eminent and highly qualified team of professionals including practitioners in the Tourism and Hospitality field. Guest lecturers will be utilized wherever possible.
Target Group
- The programme is specially designed for persons holding a Tourism related Associate Degree who are working in the Tourism and Hospitality industry and are seeking to build a career path in the industry, or are seeking to build a broad base on which to pursue advanced general or specialist studies. The programme will prepare students for middle level management positions in the industry.
Programme Methodology
Through a combination of theoretical teaching coupled with practical applications, students will acquire the necessary knowledge, skills and aptitudes for a career in the tourism and hospitality industry.

- Teacher’s Diploma in appropriate area
- Prior Learning Assessment [Mature Entry]

b. Documented evidence – portfolio - OTHER REQUIREMENTSAll students entering at the upper level are expected to have the Team Jamaica Certification from TPDCO. This is required by Law. All persons entering the hospitality/tourism industry must be Team Jamaica certified. Students who do not have this certification are required to get this training within the first two terms of the programme.
- ATTENDANCE AT LECTURES
The UCC maintains an attendance policy for students enrolled in face-to-face classes wherein students are required to attend an minimum of 75% of scheduled classes for each course in the programme.
